TheCable previously reported that the explosion ruptured a section of the Trans-Niger Pipeline (TNP) in the Bodo community of Gokana Local Government Area, with the incident occurring late on Monday night. This explosion resulted in a significant fire within the vicinity, as depicted in a video shared online, showcasing thick black smoke and flames rapidly engulfing the nearby mangrove forest.

The Trans-Niger Pipeline, which is currently managed by Renaissance Group, was previously operated by the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC). This crucial pipeline has a capacity of approximately 450,000 barrels per day and serves as a vital conduit for transporting crude oil from onshore oilfields to the Bonny export terminal.

On March 13, Renaissance Africa Energy Holdings announced the successful completion of its acquisition of Shell’s entire equity stake in SPDC. Renaissance is a consortium comprising various Nigerian exploration and production companies, including Aradel Energy, First E & P, Waltersmith, and ND Western, in collaboration with the international energy group Petroline.
