Taiwan Welcomes International Parliamentary Delegations from Allies and Partners
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Taiwan welcomed parliamentary delegations from Guatemala, Ireland, and the Marshall Islands in July 2024. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of Taiwan warmly welcomed recent visits from parliamentary delegations from Guatemala, Ireland, and the Marshall Islands. These visits, occurring in July 2024, highlight Taiwan’s commitment to fostering alliances with its diplomatic partners.
The delegation from the Marshall Islands, led by Brenson Wase, included senators Bruce Loeak, Jack Ading, and Wilbur Heine. After being greeted by Deputy Foreign Minister Tien Chung-kwang on July 11, they engaged in meetings with President Lai Ching-te and participated in a banquet hosted by Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung. The group also met with various governmental leaders over their six-day visit.
The Irish delegation, arriving on July 14 and led by Diarmuid Wilson, included senators Garret Ahearn, Gerard Craughwell, Gerry Horkan, and Sharon Keogan. Their schedule featured discussions with Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim and other key officials, in addition to cultural excursions in Taipei and Yilan County during their six-day stay.
On July 15, a cross-party delegation from Guatemala, headed by Congress President Nery Abilio Ramos y Ramos, arrived. This group, which comprises prominent Congress members, will meet with key Taiwanese officials, partake in a banquet chaired by Foreign Minister Lin, and visit various ministries and cultural sites over five days.
MOFA emphasized the deep cooperative ties between Taiwan and its allies, particularly in infrastructure, healthcare, women’s empowerment, agricultural technology, and education. The ministry expressed gratitude for the support shown by the visiting delegations regarding Taiwan’s inclusion in international organizations like the World Health Assembly, reaffirming its dedication to strengthening bilateral relationships with these nations.
