Minister Jack Chambers Celebrates Saint Patrick’s Day with Argentina’s Irish Community
The Irish Embassy in Argentina celebrated Saint Patrick’s Day with traditional festivities for the first time in years. On Saint Patrick’s Day, the Irish Embassy in Argentina hosted a grand celebration, highlighting traditional Irish fare such as Irish stew, Guinness, Jameson whiskey, and Irish coffee, together with local culinary offerings. This marked a significant occasion as it was the first-time festivities were held in person after a considerable hiatus.
Among those representing the Irish government across more than 40 countries was Minister Jack Chambers, a key figure due to his role as Ireland’s Minister for Public Expenditure, Infrastructure, Public Services, Reform, and Digitalisation, as well as the deputy leader of the Fianna Fáil party, at only 34 years of age.
During the reception, hosted by Irish Ambassador Gerard McCoy, Minister Chambers extended condolences regarding the recent tragedy in Bahía Blanca. He also called for peace in Ukraine and Gaza, while recalling the anniversary of the 1992 bombing of the Israeli Embassy, affirming Ireland’s firm stance against terrorism and its commitment to peace.
Chambers emphasized Ireland’s dedication to defending human rights, a lesson he reflected upon after meeting the family of the late Patrick Rice, a prominent human rights activist. He concluded his address by acknowledging the significant Irish community in Argentina, referencing his discussions with local ministers such as Federico Sturzenegger and Guillermo Francos.
