Nigeria’s Victor Ikpeba warns the Super Eagles to not underestimate Rwanda ahead of their World Cup qualifier. Rwanda is currently leading Group C, and Nigeria has yet to win in the qualifiers. Star player Victor Osimhen expresses his eagerness to contribute and rectify past mistakes in their upcoming match.

Victor Ikpeba, a Nigerian football legend, has cautioned the Super Eagles against underestimating the Rwandan team ahead of their World Cup 2026 qualifier on Friday at Amahoro Stadium. Ikpeba, a former African Player of the Year and a participant in two World Cups, highlighted that big names do not guarantee victory in sports, especially in African football. He emphasized that Rwanda’s position atop Group C is a testament to their capability and past performance against Nigeria should not be disregarded.

The Super Eagles, comprising notable players such as Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, and Victor Boniface, held their initial training session at Ntare Louisenlund School in Bugesera before proceeding to Amahoro Stadium. Nigeria remains winless in their World Cup qualifying campaign, registering one loss and three draws, placing them fifth in Group C. Osimhen, who has been prolific at Galatasaray with 20 goals this season, looks to change his fortunes with the national team against Rwanda, where he has not scored in the last three encounters.

Prior to the pivotal match, Osimhen expressed his determination, stating, “You have to give everything; you know it’s a dream for everyone of us to be at the World Cup. Mine is no exception. So for me, I want to be there just like every one of my teammates and we are really looking forward to the game against Rwanda.” He reiterated the team’s commitment to addressing past mistakes and being adequately prepared for the challenge ahead.

Rwanda currently leads Group C with 7 points after four matches, while Nigeria follows behind in fifth place with just 3 points. The upcoming match serves as a crucial opportunity for the Super Eagles to rejuvenate their qualification campaign and impose their quality against the Amavubi.

In summary, Nigeria’s Super Eagles face a significant challenge against Rwanda in the World Cup 2026 qualifiers. Victor Ikpeba stresses the importance of not underestimating their opponents, as Rwanda’s performance has proven them to be formidable. The Super Eagles, under pressure to secure points, must leverage their talents effectively to improve their current standing. With key players like Osimhen motivated to contribute, this match could be pivotal for Nigeria’s aspirations for World Cup qualification.
