Naheed Khan, a senior police official in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber district, announced to Arab News that the border gate has been reopened for transport. Hazrat Nabi Toor, an Afghan customs clearing agent, also verified that truck movement to and from Afghanistan is resuming. Acknowledging the reopening, Hajji Hikmatullah, the Torkham gate commissioner in Afghanistan, highlighted the importance of a joint strategy to separate political issues from economic collaboration to enhance bilateral trade.
Asgar Ali, a Pakistani customs agent, noted that many vehicles loaded with goods like vegetables and fruits began heading towards the crossing following news of its reopening. He lamented the financial losses incurred during the border closure, stating that trade should not be hindered by political disputes. Historically, clashes between Pakistani and Afghan forces have led to closures of vital crossings, disrupting trade and civilian movement significantly.
