Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, the new Administrator of Rivers State, has pledged to collaborate with stakeholders to ensure law and order within the state. He made this commitment following his swearing-in by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. This event was attended by significant government officials, including Mr. Lateef Fagbemi, the Attorney General and Justice Minister, alongside Chief of Staff Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila.

In his statement, Ibas highlighted the importance of maintaining peace and order as a primary objective for facilitating meaningful activities in Rivers State. He emphasized the necessity of cooperation with stakeholders to foster stability for the people and the government in Rivers and Nigeria as a whole. This initiative arises after President Tinubu declared a state of emergency due to ongoing political tensions in the region.

The President has nominated Ibas to lead the affairs of Rivers State for an initial six-month period amid the declared state of emergency. Born on September 27, 1960, Ibas served in various command roles in the Nigerian Navy and was appointed Chief of Naval Staff by President Muhammadu Buhari in August 2015 until his retirement in 2021. Following his service, he represented Nigeria as High Commissioner to Ghana from 2021 to 2023.

Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas brings considerable military leadership experience to his role as Administrator of Rivers State. With a focus on maintaining law and order, he has initiated plans to collaborate with various stakeholders, reflecting an urgent response to the declared state of emergency by President Tinubu.
