Abhishek Kaushik on Visa Denial for Pakistan and Bangladesh Teams: “Terrorism and Sports Cannot Coexist”
Abhishek Kaushik addressed the visa denials for Pakistan and Bangladesh teams, asserting that terrorism and sports cannot coexist. Abhishek Kaushik, President of the Amateur Soft Tennis Association UP, commented on the recent denial of visas to the Pakistan and Bangladesh teams, stating that such a decision is ultimately made by the Indian government and is welcomed by him. He emphasized that due to the prevalence of terrorism linked to these nations, sports and terroristic activities cannot coexist.
The second India International Soft Tennis Championship and the first South Asian Soft Tennis Championship is scheduled to take place at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex in Greater Noida from March 17 to 22, 2025. Approximately 150 athletes from 12 countries, including Iran, Cambodia, Japan, and Thailand, are participating, with Pakistan and Bangladesh being the exceptions.
Kaushik expressed confidence in India’s performance in the upcoming championships, reflecting on their previous victories. He reaffirmed that India emerged as the champion in the last ISTC and anticipates another successful outcome in the current edition, alongside a notable event in Korea.
Furthermore, he praised the organization of the championship in Greater Noida, noting that athletes from 15 different countries are present. Kaushik highlighted the enthusiastic participation of international players and the excellent facilities provided for the event, while reiterating that the only teams missing are from Pakistan and Bangladesh.
Lastly, Kaushik commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his efforts to elevate sports in India, citing the Fit India movement and personal engagement with athletes as significant contributions. He noted that interactions with the Prime Minister motivate players and invigorate various federations, enhancing the overall sports culture in the country.
