The UN Human Rights Office reports increasing violence against civilians in Khartoum, with deaths from artillery shelling, looting by RSF and SAF, and allegations of sexual violence. The office calls for protective actions from both parties and international assistance to address the situation.

The UN Human Rights Office, spokesperson Seif Magango, has reported alarming increases in violence against civilians in Khartoum amid ongoing hostilities. Since March 12, heavy artillery shelling and aerial bombardments by the Sudanese Armed Forces and Rapid Support Forces have led to numerous civilian casualties, including local humanitarian volunteers.

Reports indicate that the RSF and affiliated militia have engaged in violent acts, such as raiding homes in eastern Khartoum, resulting in summary killings and arbitrary detentions. There are also disturbing allegations of sexual violence in the Al Giraif Gharb neighbourhood and severe looting of food and medical supplies from local resources.

Additionally, the SAF and associated fighters are involved in extensive looting and criminal activities within their controlled regions, particularly in Khartoum North (Bahri) and East Nile. Widespread arbitrary arrests continue to be reported, especially in East Nile.

The UN Human Rights Office urges both parties to assert control and protect civilians effectively while calling on international actors to facilitate dialogue and impose accountability, thereby ensuring protection against lawlessness and impunity.

The situation in Khartoum remains dire as violence against civilians escalates amid ongoing conflict. Numerous reports highlight severe human rights violations, including killings, arbitrary detentions, and sexual violence. The UN Human Rights Office emphatically calls for both factions to prioritize civilian safety and for the international community to exert influence and support to reduce chaos and ensure accountability.
