Jorge Martin Optimistic About Returning from Injury in Qatar

Jorge Martin, MotoGP champion, hopes to return for the Qatar race after recovering from multiple injuries following pre-season crashes. He has confirmed he will not race in Austin. Martín emphasizes caution in his recovery process. In another update, Miguel Oliveira is replaced by Augusto Fernandez for the Austin race due to injury.
Jorge Martin, the defending MotoGP world champion, is optimistic about his potential return for the fourth round of the 2023 championship in Qatar, following injuries from two pre-season crashes. The Spaniard has unfortunately missed the first two rounds and confirmed he would not participate in the Austin race scheduled for March 29-30. The Qatar race takes place on April 12-13.
Martin emphasized the importance of ensuring his safety, stating, “I expect to be in Qatar, but only if it doesn’t pose any risks.” He also acknowledged the need for a cautious approach, noting, “these are the timelines, and it would be a mistake to rush them,” which he fears could extend his recovery further.
His recovery process has been challenging, particularly after breaking his right hand and foot during a crash at a pre-season testing session in Malaysia. Subsequently, he encountered a second severe crash while training on a supermoto bike, leading to further injuries: broken radius and scaphoid bones in his left wrist, four fractures in his left foot, and muscular injuries to his right ribs.
Currently, Martin trails six-time world champion Marc Marquez by 74 points, with Marquez winning both races and sprints in the ongoing season. Although he acknowledged Marquez’s successes, Martin remarked, “Marc winning is not something anyone could not have expected,” while also expressing optimism about his recovery, stating, “It was a difficult time but now I start to see the light.”
In related news, the Yamaha-Pramac team announced that Miguel Oliveira will not participate in the Austin race due to a shoulder injury sustained during the Sprint Race in Argentina. He will be replaced by Augusto Fernandez, the 2022 Moto2 World Champion, who has prior MotoGP experience with the GasGas-Tech3 team and is currently a reserve for Yamaha.
In summary, Jorge Martin is aiming for a return to competition at the Lusail race in Qatar after sustaining significant injuries during pre-season crashes. He emphasizes the importance of prioritizing his health over rushing back to the track, despite trailing behind leader Marc Marquez. Meanwhile, Miguel Oliveira is set to miss the upcoming race, with Augusto Fernandez stepping in as a replacement.
