Majur, tragically killed on March 7 alongside 27 bodyguards in Upper Nile State, was targeted during an evacuation attempt by the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).
Dr. Benjamin Bol Mel, the Vice President in charge of the Economic Cluster, led the nation in paying tribute to the late general. Attended by numerous senior officials, he emphasized the importance of dialogue for peace and urged South Sudanese citizens to refrain from acts of revenge. “We must unite and live together,” he stated, calling for calm during this painful time.
Senior Presidential Advisor Kuol Manyang Juuk expressed gratitude to President Salva Kiir Mayardit for arranging a state funeral for Lt. Gen. Majur. “We would like to thank our President for granting our brother, Gen. Majur, a state funeral,” he acknowledged. Chief of Defense Forces Gen. Paul Nang Majok reflected on Majur’s legacy as a patriot, stating that he died a hero and symbolized the identity of SPLA soldiers. “We are very proud of Lieutenant General David Majur Dak, who died as a hero and as a man,” he remarked.
