In addition to Saudi Arabia and the UAE, Nepal ranks third with 1,317 Indians imprisoned, while Qatar, Kuwait, and Malaysia also host significant numbers. Other countries with reported Indian prisoners include Pakistan, China, the United States, Oman, and Russia.
The data indicates that Kuwait has executed the highest number of Indians sentenced to death since 2020, totaling 25 individuals, followed by nine in Saudi Arabia. No executions of Indians occurred in the UAE during the specified period, although three executions were reported in February 2023, involving individuals from India.
Of the 49 Indians on death row, the UAE has 25, while Saudi Arabia has 11. Additionally, six are located in Malaysia, and three in Kuwait. One Indian citizen each is also on death row in Indonesia, Qatar, the United States, and Yemen.
The Indian government actively pursues the release and repatriation of its nationals imprisoned abroad, working with local authorities and law enforcement. Consular access, legal aid, and assistance in legal remedies, including appeals, are provided to Indian prisoners to ensure their rights are safeguarded.
