The Zvishavane lithium processing plant, managed by Zheli Mining Investments, nears completion and is set to become operational next month with a capacity to process 500 tonnes of ore daily. The construction of a lithium processing plant in Zvishavane, managed by Zheli Mining Investments, is approaching completion, with final phase activities underway. The facility, which cost US$1.5 million, possesses the capability to process 500 tonnes of ore daily and is anticipated to begin operations next month.

Midlands Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister, Owen Ncube, has highlighted the strategic significance of this project. During a site visit, he noted, “We gather here not only to witness the remarkable advancement in lithium mining, but also to reflect on the broader potential of our province’s rich mineral endowments, which include gold in various districts.” He emphasized that these resources are essential for national socio-economic development and are aligned with the goals of Vision 2030.

Kudakwashe Zimhondi, General Manager of Zheli Mining Investments, expressed optimism regarding the project’s progress. “We have since completed the installation phase and conducted a dry run to test its efficiency. So far, we are excited about the results,” he mentioned, acknowledging the crucial support from the government that has fostered an investment-friendly environment.

Once operational, the lithium processing plant is poised to create job opportunities for local residents, fostering economic empowerment and skills enhancement in Zvishavane. Zimbabwe is progressively establishing itself as a significant participant in the global lithium market, with substantial investments flowing into the sector.
