The Sudanese Armed Forces are advancing towards the Republican Palace in Khartoum, amidst ongoing battles in North Darfur and North Kordofan, resulting in substantial civilian casualties and detentions. Emergency services are obstructed by both sides, and humanitarian conditions continue to worsen with reports of villages being burned and displaced populations facing dire situations.

Intense confrontations persist in Sudan as the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) advances towards the Republican Palace in Khartoum, while clashes are also occurring in North Darfur and North Kordofan. Tragically, civilians find themselves amidst this turmoil, resulting in numerous fatalities and detentions over the preceding week. Reports indicate that the SAF has moved within 500 meters of the palace, aiming to reclaim control of Greater Khartoum, which was lost to the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) during the conflict that erupted in April 2023.

On Monday, troops advancing from the south coordinated their efforts with army units in the city center, leading to escalated violence. Explosions and gunfire filled the air, particularly along El Qasr and El Jamaa streets. The SAF has reportedly seized the El Fadil Hospital on Doctors’ Street, approximately 1.2 kilometers south of the palace, and has progressed towards the Foreign Ministry in their offensive.

According to a local emergency group, there were 50 civilian deaths in Khartoum locality last week, including 10 volunteers, along with 82 individuals detained by RSF and allied militias. Aid organizations have indicated that their operations are obstructed by both warring factions, with volunteers facing threats of violence, including killings and torture. In Nasser Square, reports confirmed the deaths of five women due to a drone strike, with the RSF enforcing a blockade on the area.

In North Darfur, the SAF’s 6th Infantry Division reported the death of an RSF commander and 15 of his fighters in an airstrike that targeted their unit near El Fasher. Concurrently, RSF shelling in El Fasher has caused damage to infrastructure, including homes and schools. Notably, Yale University’s Humanitarian Research Lab has documented that the RSF set fire to at least 18 villages in El Fasher, Tawila, Dar Es Salaam, and Kelemando, leading to significant displacement of civilians.

As conditions deteriorate, El Obeid in North Kordofan has reported a fragile calm after enduring weeks of RSF bombardment. Additionally, El Fula in West Kordofan is experiencing an unprecedented number of displaced individuals, with activists citing severe conditions and a lack of assistance.

In summary, the conflict in Sudan continues to escalate, with the SAF approaching the Republican Palace while fierce battles rage in other regions. The humanitarian crisis intensifies as civilian casualties rise and access to aid deteriorates, particularly in areas like North Darfur and West Kordofan. The situation remains dire, necessitating urgent international attention and intervention to alleviate human suffering and restore stability in the region.
