Iraq has been positioned 101st globally in the latest World Happiness Report, ranking eighth in the Arab region. The report, which assessed well-being across 147 nations, was developed through collaborative efforts involving Gallup, Oxford’s Wellbeing Research Centre, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network. It utilized data from 2022 to 2024, focusing on various factors, including social support, income, health, and perceptions of corruption.

The report reveals that the concepts of “belief in kindness and trust in others” are crucial determinants of happiness, potentially more than previously recognized. A noteworthy finding showcases that individuals’ expectations regarding strangers returning lost items correlates positively with their happiness levels. Nordic countries, renowned for their high happiness rankings, also excel in trust-based metrics.

Iraq received a score of 4.979 out of 10 on this happiness index. Finland maintained its title as the happiest country globally for the eighth year running, achieving a score of 7.735. Other top-ranked Scandinavian nations include Denmark, Iceland, and Sweden. The Netherlands rejoined the top five, while Costa Rica and Mexico made their first appearances in the top ten at sixth and tenth places, respectively. Norway is situated at seventh.

Among major economies, Germany ranks 22nd, the United Kingdom 23rd, and the United States is in 24th place. Russia has been positioned at 66th. Within the Arab world, the United Arab Emirates leads the regional rankings at 21st, with Kuwait at 30th and Saudi Arabia at 32nd. Oman and Bahrain follow in the top five at 52nd and 59th, respectively. Iraq, as mentioned, ranks 101st, with Palestine at 108th, Morocco at 112th, and Tunisia at 113th.

At the other end of the scale, Afghanistan is identified as the least happy nation, ranking 147th, trailed by Sierra Leone at 146th and Lebanon at 145th.
