JSFM Condemns Enforced Disappearance of Activist Taiib Laghari and Calls for Global Action

The Jeay Sindh Freedom Movement condemns the enforced disappearance of activist Taiib Laghari, allegedly abducted by Pakistan’s ISI. His case highlights a broader pattern of enforced disappearances and oppression against Sindhi activists. The movement also raises concerns over illegal canal constructions threatening Sindhi water resources. JSFM calls for international intervention to address these human rights violations.
The Jeay Sindh Freedom Movement (JSFM) has expressed strong condemnation regarding the enforced disappearance of Taiib Laghari, a prominent member of their movement, who was allegedly abducted by Pakistan’s intelligence agency, ISI, on January 26. His family has remained distressed as his whereabouts are still unknown weeks after his abduction, inciting outrage among Sindhi nationalists.
In a press release, JSFM characterized Laghari’s disappearance as indicative of a larger trend of oppression perpetrated by the Pakistani state against Sindhi activists. The statement emphasized that Pakistan continues to disappear Sindhi activists, journalists, and human rights defenders, employing fear and repression to stifle calls for justice and self-determination.
Furthermore, JSFM highlighted concerns regarding what they termed an economic and environmental attack on Sindh. They allege that the Pakistani government is unlawfully constructing six canals on the Indus River, diverting water to Punjab, thereby depriving millions of Sindhis of essential access to water for agriculture and daily life. This situation is framed as a direct threat to the existence of the Sindhi people.
Amid escalating concerns regarding human rights violations and environmental issues, a significant protest occurred outside the Pakistan Embassy in London on March 15, 2025. Organized by the World Sindhi Congress (WSC), the demonstration sought to raise international awareness about the illegal canal construction and the plight of abducted Sindhi nationalists. JSFM Chairman Sohail Abro participated and delivered a speech denouncing Pakistan’s actions while demanding accountability for victims.
Abro stated, “We demand the immediate release of Taiib Laghari and all forcibly disappeared Sindhi activists. Pakistan must be held accountable for its ongoing policy of enforced disappearances. The illegal construction of canals on the Indus River must be halted, and the Sindhi nation’s right to self-determination must be recognized.”
JSFM has called for intervention from international organizations, including the United Nations, the British Parliament, Amnesty International, and Human Rights Watch, advocating for immediate action against the alleged human rights abuses in Pakistan. Their statement concluded, “Sindh is under attack–its people are being abducted, and its water is being stolen. The world cannot remain silent while Pakistan continues its crimes against the Sindhi nation. We will continue our struggle for Sindhudesh until Sindh achieves freedom, justice, and self-determination.”
The Jeay Sindh Freedom Movement’s condemnation of Taiib Laghari’s enforced disappearance underscores a troubling pattern of human rights abuses in Pakistan, particularly against Sindhi activists. With allegations of illegal water diversion harming the Sindhi populace, the movement calls for international action. The urgency of addressing these issues is emphasized by multiple organizations advocating for justice and recognition of the Sindhi nation’s rights.
