JSFM Urges International Action Against Enforced Disappearances in Sindh
The Jeay Sindh Freedom Movement strongly condemned the enforced disappearance of activist Taiib Laghari, abducted by Pakistan’s ISI. On January 26, Taiib Laghari, an activist affiliated with the Jeay Sindh Freedom Movement (JSFM), was reportedly abducted by Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the ISI. His enforced disappearance has remained unresolved, causing considerable distress to his family and igniting outrage among Sindhi nationalists. The JSFM condemned this incident, asserting that it reflects a systemic pattern of oppression against Sindhi activists by the Pakistani state.
In a recent press statement, JSFM emphasized that the ongoing abductions of Sindhi activists and human rights defenders serve to instill fear and suppress voices advocating for justice and self-determination. The movement also drew attention to significant economic and environmental issues affecting Sindh, noting the controversial construction of six canals on the Indus River, which diverts essential water supplies to Punjab and threatens the agricultural survival of millions of Sindhis.
A major protest outside the Pakistan Embassy in London on March 15, 2025, organized by the World Sindhi Congress (WSC), sought to highlight these grievances, as well as the plight of forcibly disappeared Sindhi nationals. JSFM Chairman Sohail Abro participated in the demonstration, vocally criticizing the actions of the Pakistani government and emphasizing the need for accountability.
Abro issued a call to action, demanding the immediate release of Taiib Laghari and the acknowledgment of the rights of all Sindhi activists subjected to enforced disappearances. He urged for the cessation of the illegal canal construction and asserted the necessity for recognizing the Sindhi nation’s right to self-determination, stating, “Pakistan must be held accountable for its ongoing policy of enforced disappearances.”
Furthermore, the JSFM appealed to international entities, including the United Nations and various human rights organizations, to take decisive steps against the alleged human rights violations occurring in Pakistan. Their statement underscored the urgency of the situation in Sindh, insisting that global awareness and intervention are vital. JSFM concluded by reaffirming their commitment to advocating for the freedom and justice of the Sindhi people.
