ZIMSEC Extends November Exam Registration Deadline to May 16

ZIMSEC has extended the registration deadline for November exams to May 16, following concerns that the original deadline of March 28 was too early for many students, particularly the economically disadvantaged. This extension offers additional time for students and parents to prepare financially for the examination fees.
The Zimbabwe Schools Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) has officially extended the registration deadline for the November Grade 7, Ordinary Level, and Advanced Level examinations to May 16. This decision was announced by the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Torerayi Moyo, during a Senate session on Thursday.
The extension follows significant concern voiced by lawmakers, who argued that the original deadline of March 28 was unreasonably early, particularly impacting economically disadvantaged students. Moyo conveyed, “The public examination fees were scheduled to be paid on or before March 28, but we received a request from parliamentarians this afternoon that the date be extended.”
He further stated, “In consultation with the stakeholders, we have agreed that the date be extended to May 16.” This extension provides much-needed relief for students and parents who were facing financial constraints, allowing them additional time to secure the necessary funds for registration.
In summary, the extension of the exam registration deadline by ZIMSEC to May 16 is a significant step in ensuring that all students, particularly those from low-income backgrounds, are given a fair opportunity to participate in the upcoming examinations. The decision reflects the concerns raised by lawmakers and emphasizes the importance of accessibility in the education system.
