The Two Oceans Marathon, taking place on April 5, will see record participation from 98 countries, including 798 runners from Zimbabwe and 839 from Namibia. This event, noted for its scenic route, significantly impacts the local economy by creating approximately 4,000 temporary jobs.

The Two Oceans Marathon, renowned as ‘the world’s most beautiful marathon’ and dubbed ‘Africa’s biggest event,’ contributes significantly to the revenue of the Western Cape. Recent studies indicate that this year’s edition, featuring a 56km ultra and half-marathon, could surpass its previous financial impact. Scheduled for the weekend of April 5, the event has attracted a record number of international participants from 98 countries.

A notable representation comes from neighboring countries such as Namibia and Zimbabwe, sending 839 and 798 runners, respectively. Furthermore, the United Kingdom ranks fourth with 337 participants. Overall, approximately 4,500 international runners are expected, highlighting the appeal of the event to diverse regions including Mauritania, Malaysia, and New Zealand.

Race manager Hilton Kearns expressed excitement over welcoming these participants, stating, “It’s an honour to be welcoming more than 4,500 internationals from a record 98 countries to our shores.” This participation underscores the marathon’s global appeal, previously lauded by The New York Times as a must-run event.

The 56km ultra marathon offers breathtaking views around Chapman’s Peak, contributing to its reputation. Kearns emphasized plans for an exceptional 2025 event, aiming to enhance the experience for international runners while reintroducing the Cape Town International Friendship Run.
