President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is optimistic about enhancing diplomatic relations with Colombia, Cambodia, and Ukraine. During the credential presentations of their new ambassadors, he highlighted mutual interests in peace, development, and cooperation. Each ambassador committed to strengthening ties, which are historically established and foundational to future collaboration.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has demonstrated enthusiasm regarding the strengthening of relations between the Philippines and Colombia, Cambodia, and Ukraine. This optimism was conveyed during the credential ceremony of new ambassadors from these nations at Malacañan Palace in Manila. Marcos expressed that the ambassadors’ roles would be pivotal in nurturing the established connections with Manila.

During the ceremony, President Marcos told Ambassador Edgar Rodrigo Rojas Garavito of Colombia, “I believe there’s more that we can do, that we can explore many other sectors, and strengthen and deepen the relations between our two countries.” Colombia and the Philippines formally established diplomatic relations on July 5, 1946, and share a commitment to peace and development, as highlighted by Rojas Garavito.

While welcoming Ambassador Sin Saream of Cambodia, President Marcos emphasized the need to strengthen the already strong relations between both countries. He acknowledged the long-standing ties since they established diplomatic relations on August 20, 1957. Sin Saream assured to further enhance cooperation for the mutual benefit of Filipinos and Cambodians, noting approximately 7,500 Filipinos currently residing in Cambodia.

Ambassador Yuliia Oleksandrivna Fediv of Ukraine also expressed commitment to fostering bilateral relations, particularly emphasizing peace and mutual respect. Marcos reinforced the Philippines’ support for efforts in sustaining peace in Ukraine, stating, “We hope to continue – we will always support you in your efforts for peace.” Diplomatic ties between the Philippines and Ukraine were established on April 7, 1992, with about 24 Filipinos living there.
