Sudan’s RSF Accuses SAF of Deadly Airstrikes in North Darfur

The RSF accuses the SAF of lethal airstrikes in North Darfur, resulting in over 100 deaths and many injuries. The UN has expressed alarm over rising civilian attacks. As military efforts continue, the conflict nears two years, with severe humanitarian repercussions affecting millions.
The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan have accused the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) of conducting airstrikes on the Tora market in North Darfur, leading to significant casualties exceeding 100 fatalities and numerous injuries. This claim has not been addressed by the Sudanese army, according to reports from the Xinhua news agency citing Sudan Tribune.
UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric expressed grave concern regarding the escalating attacks on civilians, referencing the recent airstrike alongside an RSF artillery strike on a mosque in Khartoum. In response to the ongoing conflict, the SAF shared a map indicating its areas of control and those held by the RSF, amid continuing hostilities.
According to a statement from SAF on its official Facebook account, the armed forces, along with popular support, are engaged in operations aimed at dismantling the militias and restoring order in the country. The map distinguished SAF-controlled regions in green, covering several states, while RSF territories were marked in red, indicating the ongoing territorial divisions.
Since early 2024, military gains have been reported, particularly in Omdurman and surrounding areas, demonstrating a shift in momentum favoring the army. The military successfully launched operations in late September, regaining significant control over parts of central Khartoum, with ongoing advances witnessed in Sinnar State and Gezira State.
As the conflict approaches its two-year anniversary, the humanitarian consequences have been dire, with tens of thousands deceased and over 15 million displaced. The healthcare system in Sudan has deteriorated, complicating the verification of casualty figures amid widespread devastation.
The rising tensions between the RSF and SAF in Sudan have led to lethal consequences, including significant civilian casualties from airstrikes. With the SAF gaining ground and asserting control, the humanitarian crisis continues to worsen, calling for urgent international attention and intervention. The need for accurate information and support for the displaced population is critical as the conflict endures.
