Stuart Law Appointed as Head Coach of Nepal’s Cricket Team

Stuart Law has been appointed as the head coach of Nepal’s cricket team for two years, succeeding Monty Desai. Law brings experience from his previous roles with various international teams and aims to lead Nepal in the Cricket World Cup League 2 for qualification to the 2027 World Cup.
Stuart Law, the former Australian cricketer, has been appointed as the head coach of Nepal’s national cricket team under a two-year contract. This decision comes after the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) sought a new coach following their parting with Monty Desai in February. Desai had successfully led Nepal to the T20 World Cup last year but his contract was not renewed by CAN.
At 56 years old, Law was selected ahead of notable candidates such as West Indies cricket legend Shivnarine Chanderpaul and experienced coaches Dav Whatmore and Wasim Jaffer, who were also considered for the position. Before this appointment, Law had a brief tenure with USA Cricket, where he was dismissed just six months into a three-year contract despite overseeing a significant upset against Pakistan during the T20 World Cup.
Throughout his career, Stuart Law has played 54 One Day Internationals and one Test match for Australia. His coaching experience spans several countries, including Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, the West Indies, Afghanistan, and Middlesex. Under Law’s guidance, Nepal will participate in the Cricket World Cup League 2 in June, facing off against Scotland and the Netherlands as part of the qualification process for the 2027 50-over World Cup.
In summary, Stuart Law’s appointment as Nepal’s head coach is a strategic move by CAN after the previous coach’s departure. Law’s extensive experience in both playing and coaching at various international levels positions him to lead Nepal towards their competitive goals, notably in the upcoming Cricket World Cup League 2 and the pursuit of qualification for the 2027 World Cup.
