Chile President Boric Commends PM Modi’s Geopolitical Leadership in State Visit

Chilean President Gabriel Boric Font recently commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarkable diplomatic abilities, stating that Modi has the capacity to engage with every global leader and is a significant figure in contemporary geopolitics. At a ceremony in Rashtrapati Bhawan, he remarked, “You have the status nowadays that you can talk to every leader of the world…you are a key player in the geopolitical atmosphere nowadays.”
Expressing gratitude for the hospitable reception he received during his inaugural state visit to India, President Boric noted, “I want to thank you for the warm welcome that we have received here… in the past 16 years, no one from Chile has come here, and in that 16 years, India has changed a lot.”
President Boric emphasized the intent to bolster relations between Chile and India, underscoring their shared values of strategic autonomy and collaborative efforts. He mentioned, “Chile is a country that is connected to the world… we want to work more deep in our relationships with India and we have given some important steps today,” after signing various MoUs on significant issues including cultural exchange and Antarctic research.
Currently visiting India from April 1 to April 5, 2025, to celebrate 76 years of diplomatic relations, President Boric is accompanied by key ministers and business leaders. His itinerary includes significant cities such as Agra, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, marking his first official visit. Notably, his first encounter with PM Modi was during the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro in November 2024.
Upon arrival, President Boric received a ceremonial welcome at the Air Force Station Palam and had bilateral talks with PM Modi at Hyderabad House. Following, he attended a banquet hosted by President Droupadi Murmu in his honor, attended by India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and other dignitaries.
