The U.S. Department of State emphasized the necessity for South Sudan’s Transitional Government to stop “taking advantage” of the United States. The statement highlighted that enforcing immigration laws is vital for national security and public safety. Every nation, including South Sudan, must facilitate the prompt return of its citizens when requested by another country.
The U.S. will reassess this visa situation when the South Sudanese government demonstrates full cooperation. Additionally, the U.S. Embassy in Khartoum has suspended its operations, affecting visa, passport, and consular services since April 22, 2023.
