The fourth spot went to Bahamian athlete Steven Gardiner, clocking in at 20.37 seconds.

Richards previously competed in the men’s 400 meters at the Paris Olympics, where he placed fourth in 2024. Just weeks prior, he had taken second place in the men’s 200 meters during the Grand Slam Track’s inaugural meet in Jamaica on April 5. Notably, Richards was a mere 0.06 seconds away from achieving his personal best of 19.80 seconds, which he set back on August 6, 2022.

The Grand Slam Track series, envisioned by the legendary American sprinter Michael Johnson, continues its tour with the next event scheduled to take place in Philadelphia on May 30.
