India’s women’s hockey team suffered its third straight defeat in the FIH Women’s Pro League, falling 1-4 to Argentina. Deepika scored India’s only goal, while Agustina Gorzelany netted a hat-trick for Argentina. India started strong but lost momentum, allowing Argentina to control the match after an initial push from the Indian side. The team must regroup quickly, as they face Argentina again tomorrow.

In the ongoing FIH Women’s Pro League, the Indian women’s hockey team faced yet another setback, suffering their third consecutive defeat. On Tuesday, India fell 1-4 against Argentina, the world’s number two ranked team. Deepika was the only player to score for India, successfully converting a penalty corner just before half-time, while Agustina Gorzelany delivered a standout performance for Argentina with a hat-trick.

India began the match with an impressive first quarter, seeming strong as they pressured the Argentine defense. Salima Tete almost put India on the scoreboard during the quarter but missed a golden chance right in front of goal. Naveent Kaur also initiated significant plays, passing to Lalremsiami and then to Bajeet Kaur, but those efforts fizzled when Bajeet failed to capitalize on her opportunities.

Despite previously enduring defeats against Australia, India kept pace with their higher-ranked opponents through a strong start. However, as the game progressed into the second quarter, energy levels dipped which allowed Argentina to assert their dominance. The Argentine team seized the opportunity when Victoria Falasco scored in the 29th minute, giving them an early edge.

Just before the halftime break, Deepika brought the game back to 1-1 with her penalty corner shot, providing a glimmer of hope for India. However, the momentum shift did not last long. Argentina responded assertively in the third quarter and regained the lead when Agustina Gorzelany converted a penalty stroke in the 40th minute.

As the game unfolded, despite India’s initial attempts to regain control, they struggled against Argentina’s fluid play. Well-placed attempts at goal from both teams did not favor India. Coach Harendra Singh had anticipated a balanced match, but things turned for the worse. Gorzelany accomplished another two goals late in the match, solidifying Argentina’s win. India is scheduled to face Argentina again on Wednesday, making it critical for them to regroup and refocus before the match.

This latest defeat marks a difficult stretch for the Indian women’s hockey team as they gear up to face Argentina once more. With only one goal so far in the series, it highlights the need for better finishing and defensive strategies moving forward.
