Intense Competition from Teams Across CARICOM
At this point, Jamaica sits closely behind in second place, followed by Suriname trailing in third. The Guyana A team, hosting three teams overall, is currently in fourth place, while teams from Barbados, the Cayman Islands, and St. Lucia appear to be in a competitive position just behind them. With still five rounds remaining, the stakes are high and every encounter presents both an exciting opportunity and a challenging test for all players involved.
Highlights of Early Rounds Showcase Player Talents
In Round One, competitive match-ups included Guyana’s Team A facing Jamaica while Team B went up against Suriname. Here, CM Taffin Khan and WCM Aditi Joshi managed to pull off two draws against their Jamaican opponents, but Ciel Clement and Kyle Couchman were unable to secure any points, with Couchman losing after miscalculating the exchanges on the board. The situation continued into Round Two, where CM Sachin Pitamber faced a tough opponent from St. Lucia, ultimately conceding on the 50th move, while Shariff’s victory added some excitement to Team B’s performance.
Players Display Skill Amid High Stakes
Round Three brought a thrilling match where Khan quickly defeated Suriname’s Jason Yeung, showcasing his tactical prowess and experience. The Guyana Team B, however, faced a fierce showdown against Barbados, leaving Couchman and Shariff on the losing end while Pitamber managed a commendable victory. Meanwhile, the Junior Under-16 Tournament is ongoing and seeing some great young talent, particularly with Mileke Sinckler from Barbados leading the charge.
Final Rounds Approaching in a Spirited Tournament

They managed to secure greatness amongst the Bajans, this was despite a loss for Clement against the talented female player, Leshay Springer, who showed great promise during play. The Guyana Chess Federation has also expressed its immense gratitude to the generous sponsors supporting this chess event, and special thanks has been extended to Pegasus Hotel for their hospitality.
