The Prime Minister plans a five-day visit to Nigeria, Brazil, and Guyana to strengthen diplomatic ties, participate in the G-20 Summit, and honor the Indian diaspora, emphasizing shared values and cooperation.

The Prime Minister is set to undertake a significant five-day journey to Nigeria, Brazil, and Guyana. This visit will commence in Nigeria, responding to an invitation from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The Prime Minister aims to strengthen the Strategic Partnership with Nigeria, anchored in democratic values and pluralism, while also engaging with the Indian community there. The next stop will include participation in the 19th G-20 Summit in Brazil as a Troika member. Following India’s prior successful presidency, which highlighted the priorities of the Global South, this engagement will continue under Brazil’s leadership, focusing on key issues aligned with the G-20 vision of “One Earth, One Family, One Future.” Discussions will also extend to enhancing bilateral relations with other nations. The Prime Minister’s journey will culminate in Guyana, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister in over five decades. At President Mohamed Irfaan Ali’s invitation, the Prime Minister will explore ways to strategically enhance the longstanding Indo-Guyanese relationship, rooted in shared cultural and historical values. Additionally, he is expected to honor the significant Indian diaspora in Guyana, which has been present for over 185 years, while addressing the nation’s Parliament. During this trip, the Prime Minister will also convene with leaders from Caribbean nations at the 2nd India-CARICOM Summit, aimed at renewing and expanding historical ties and cooperation across various sectors.

The Prime Minister’s upcoming five-day visit to Nigeria, Brazil, and Guyana underscores India’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic relationships and enhancing cooperation in diverse areas. Each destination holds unique significance: Nigeria, as a major partner in West Africa, represents a strategic ally in matters of democracy and development; Brazil is pivotal as the host of the G-20 Summit, where global economic and developmental agendas, particularly concerning the Global South, will be discussed; and Guyana offers a historical connection with India’s diaspora, emphasizing cultural and cooperative links that span over a century. This visit also highlights India’s proactive stance in engaging with Caribbean nations, reflecting a prioritization of regional partnerships.

In summary, the Prime Minister’s five-day diplomatic mission to Nigeria, Brazil, and Guyana is poised to reinforce India’s strategic partnerships based on shared values, discuss critical global and bilateral issues, and honor the substantial Indian diaspora in these nations. The visit not only showcases India’s commitment to development and democracy but also aims to renew and expand cooperation with countries in the Caribbean and beyond, fostering deeper ties and collaborative efforts for mutual benefit.
