Zambia and Burundi have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a fibre optic connection via Lake Tanganyika, enhancing regional connectivity. He highlighted that the newly established link will bolster Zambia’s status as a regional hub for Information and Communication Technology (ICT), enhancing Burundi’s capacity to relay information throughout southern and eastern African nations. Minister Mutati also noted that the signing of this pivotal agreement reflects the success of the 2024 Digital Government Africa Summit, which saw the participation of over 500 delegates, including more than 20 Cabinet Ministers from 33 different countries. In addition, Burundian Minister of Communication, Technology and Information, Léocadie Ndacayisaba, expressed optimism regarding the MoU, stating that the fibre optic connection will pave the way for enhanced collaboration between Zambia and Burundi.
