Sudan Criticizes UAE’s Conference Initiatives Amid Allegations of Interference
Sudan’s government condemned the UAE’s plan to hold a conference on Sudan during the African Union summit. Sudan accuses the UAE of providing military support to the RSF and has filed a complaint with the UN Security Council. Deputy Chairman Malik Agar emphasized the importance of Sudan’s sovereignty and the need for national dialogue in resolving internal issues.
On February 10, 2025, Sudan’s government expressed strong opposition to the United Arab Emirates’ initiative to organize a conference addressing Sudanese issues on the sidelines of the African Union summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Sudan described this action as an “all-out aggression,” prompting a formal complaint to the United Nations Security Council, where they accused the UAE of supplying military equipment to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) via Chad.
Malik Agar, the deputy chairman of Sudan’s Sovereign Council, criticized the UAE’s timing for the proposed meeting on February 14, highlighting that it coincides with crucial discussions among African leaders. He claimed that the UAE’s intentions are politically motivated, undermining Sudan’s national interests and violating the African Union’s principles of sovereignty and unity.
Agar urged Ethiopia to be mindful of regional interests while commending Egypt’s rejection of the UAE’s proposal. He accused the UAE of attempting to manipulate Sudan’s internal affairs and of supporting terrorism by arming the RSF to further its geopolitical agenda in Africa.
Furthermore, Agar reaffirmed Sudan’s stance against any discussions regarding its internal matters without its participation, especially if initiated by non-African Union countries. He emphasized that Sudan will resist any external interference in its internal political affairs and called upon the international community to unite against such encroachments.
He acknowledged ongoing military operations aimed at restoring stability against the RSF, reiterating that a comprehensive political dialogue is crucial once the security situation improves. Lastly, Agar noted that the Sudanese government has formulated a roadmap to guide post-war recovery, emphasizing national dialogue, the establishment of a competent government, and the affirmation of political freedoms without compromising fundamental national interests.
