Significance of Turkey’s Support for Stability in Libya: Insights from HoR’s Foreign Affairs Committee Meeting
Youssef Al-Agouri, head of Libya’s Foreign Affairs Committee, met with Turkish Consul Sarkan Karmanlioglu to discuss the importance of Turkey’s role in stabilizing Libya. Youssef Al-Agouri, the Head of the Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Committee of Libya’s House of Representatives (HoR), emphasized Turkey’s crucial role in promoting stability in Libya during a recent meeting with Turkish Consul Sarkan Karmanlioglu in Benghazi. Al-Agouri underscored Libya’s intention to deepen its parliamentary ties with Turkey by establishing a Libyan-Turkish friendship committee, urging the Turkish National Assembly to support this initiative.
In terms of economic collaboration, Al-Agouri reiterated his invitation to Turkish businesses to engage in ongoing projects in Libya, while expressing gratitude for Turkey’s assistance following Storm Daniel, which affected eastern Libya in September 2023. The Turkish Consul affirmed Turkey’s commitment to Libya’s unity and prosperity, revealing plans to open a new consulate headquarters in Benghazi by mid-year and to provide direct visa processing for Libyan citizens.
The Consul further welcomed the resumption of direct Turkish Airlines flights to Benghazi after several years, enhancing travel convenience for Libyan citizens. Furthermore, he informed that a delegation from Turkish universities visited the University of Benghazi to discuss scholarship opportunities for Libyan students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. At the conclusion of the discussions, Al-Agouri invited Turkish businesspeople to visit Libya to explore investment opportunities.
