Furthermore, this seismic event followed a stronger 7.6-magnitude earthquake in the Cayman Islands on February 8, which was centered in George Town at a depth of 10 kilometers.

In another notable incident, a tsunami warning was issued for the Mexican coastline, although it was retracted two hours later according to USGS updates. The National Weather Service Warning Center clarified via their X account that based on recent assessments, the tsunami threat had passed with no alerts currently active for the United States or its international partners. They recommended normal caution in coastal areas with potential unusual currents.

In the preceding days, a series of lesser magnitude earthquakes were also reported. Notably, a 3.4-magnitude earthquake occurred in Petrolia, California, on February 7, which was preceded by smaller quakes of magnitudes 2.9 and 4.3 in the area and Alaska respectively. These sequences highlight the active seismic activity across various regions during this period.
