Equatorial Guinea will launch a licensing round in 2025 to boost its oil and gas exploration and production. This initiative is essential for long-term energy security and attracting investments. Under Minister Antonio Oburu Ondo, the country aims to strengthen its position as a key African oil and gas producer through new acreage and technology partnerships.

Equatorial Guinea is set to initiate a licensing round in 2025 to enhance exploration and production within its upstream sector. This strategic move is vital to counteract the declining output from existing fields and to secure long-term energy stability and financial resources. The upcoming round is expected to attract significant capital investment and introduce advanced technologies, creating engagement opportunities for both international and local energy stakeholders.

Under the direction of Minister of Mines and Hydrocarbons, Antonio Oburu Ondo, the country is proactively working to stimulate investment in its hydrocarbon resources. Although specific technical details have not yet been revealed, this licensing round is anticipated to leverage the successes of previous rounds, reaffirming Equatorial Guinea’s role as a leading oil and gas producer in Africa.

Tomás Gerbasio, VP of Commercial and Strategic Engagement at the African Energy Chamber, remarked, “The importance of exploration cannot be overstated. New licensing rounds are the lifeblood of Africa’s upstream industry, ensuring that production levels remain strong and that new discoveries continue to fuel our economies.” This statement illustrates the commitment to exploration as part of a broader strategic vision.

Historically, Equatorial Guinea’s licensing process has drawn considerable interest, with the last round in 2019 attracting 53 participating companies and 17 bids for 27 available blocks. The forthcoming round will include Blocks H and 02, previously under the management of Atlas Oranto Petroleum and PanAtlantic Energy (Vanco Energy).

Equatorial Guinea’s planned licensing round in 2025 is a critical initiative aimed at enhancing exploration and production within its oil and gas sector. By attracting investments and fostering new technologies, the country seeks to reinforce its position in the African energy market. With active participation in recent developments, Equatorial Guinea remains committed to its strategic energy objectives, ensuring future economic growth and energy security.
