INAM forecasts the formation of two tropical cyclones, Honde and Garance, by Friday. Honde may develop stronger winds and rainfall, while Garance is not expected to threaten Mozambique. Vigilance is advised for maritime navigation due to these weather changes.

The National Institute of Meteorology (INAM) has announced the anticipated development of two tropical cyclones, ‘Honde’ and ‘Garance’, which are expected to form between Thursday and Friday in the southern and eastern regions of Madagascar. These systems are capable of generating strong winds in the Mozambique Channel, affecting local weather conditions.

Currently, Moderate Tropical Storm Honde is approximately 250 kilometers off the coast of Inhambane province, moving south of Madagascar. It is forecasted to strengthen into a tropical cyclone by Friday, February 28. The cyclone is predicted to cause strong winds in the Mozambique Channel and varying levels of rain across certain regions of Mozambique.

Meteorologist Lelo Tayob emphasized that while this system is not directly affecting land, its significant size influences atmospheric circulation, leading to rainfall on the mainland. “This system is not in our country; it is at sea, in the Mozambique Channel. However, it is large and impacts the general circulation of the atmosphere, and this generates rain,” he stated.

Tropical Storm Garance is currently located to the east of Madagascar and is also expected to develop into a cyclone. However, it is not anticipated to pose any threat to Mozambique. Tayob clarified, “Tomorrow, [Tropical Storm Garance] will evolve into a tropical cyclone, but given its size, location, and movement, which is far from Madagascar, it will not have an impact on the continental part of our country.”

INAM has advised individuals to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions, especially with respect to maritime navigation, as these weather phenomena may still influence the area.

In conclusion, INAM has issued a prediction regarding the formation of two cyclones, Honde and Garance, off the coast of Madagascar. While Tropical Storm Honde poses a potential risk of severe weather, such as strong winds and rainfall, Tropical Storm Garance is expected to have negligible impact. Authorities emphasize the importance of preparedness as these systems develop, particularly concerning maritime activities.
