A team of Emirati ambassadors is actively engaging in global diplomacy to foster peace and prosperity. Representing the UAE in diverse nations like Japan and Costa Rica, these ambassadors are dedicated to improving perceptions and facilitating cultural exchange. In an interview with The National, five diplomats shared their commitment to promoting the UAE’s values while participating in the Forum of UAE Ambassadors in Abu Dhabi.

Rawdha Alotaiba, appointed as the UAE’s ambassador to Costa Rica in 2022, emphasized the need to counter misconceptions about the UAE’s development and women’s rights. She stated, “Many people think that because we have oil, that’s the only reason we developed. But that’s not true.” Alotaiba finds Costa Ricans receptive to cultural dialogue and has initiated an internship program for Emirati students.

Shihab Al Faheem, serving as the UAE ambassador to Japan, highlighted the long-standing partnership between the two nations, particularly in trade and technology sectors. He noted the importance of the upcoming Expo 2025 and shared that, “Our diplomacy has made the UAE the number one destination for Japanese nationals in the Middle East.” Al Faheem believes in using diplomacy to strengthen international relations.

Mohammed Al Shamsi, UAE ambassador to Ireland, pointed out the growing trade ties between the UAE and Ireland. With approximately 13,000 Irish citizens residing in the UAE, Al Shamsi aims to enhance engagement in various sectors, stating, “We are here to engage, to build relationships, and to make business work.” Recent agreements on legal cooperation reflect the commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.

Hamad Al Kaabi, the UAE ambassador to Austria, acknowledged the robust economic relationship with Austria and the growing tourism ties. He expressed his passion for diplomacy, stating, “Representing the UAE is an honour. Every day, I feel motivated to convey our country’s message to the world.” Al Kaabi is dedicated to advancing UAE-Austria cooperation in various spheres.

Nawal Al Hosany, UAE’s Resident Representative to IRENA, advocates for renewable energy on a global stage. She noted, “We are an energy-producing nation, but we are also a responsible one,” highlighting the UAE’s commitment to sustainability. Al Hosany stressed the importance of international collaboration to achieve climate goals while affirming the UAE’s leadership in the renewable energy sector.
