Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty met Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki to relay a message from President Al-Sisi, focusing on enhancing bilateral relations and discussing regional stability. On Friday, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty engaged with Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki, presenting a verbal message from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi. The meeting underscored the importance of enhancing bilateral relations and addressed significant regional issues affecting both nations.

During their dialogue, both leaders discussed strategies to progress bilateral ties across various sectors and evaluate shared interests. This meeting in Asmara followed President El-Sisi’s visit to Eritrea in October 2024, aiming to reinforce the tripartite coordination mechanism among Egypt, Eritrea, and Somalia.

Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, the spokesperson for the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, confirmed the meeting’s focus on reviewing and bolstering the Egypt-Eritrea relationship. Discussions encompassed regional concerns, notably the situation in Africa, with an emphasis on promoting stability and security within the Horn of Africa.

A significant aspect of the talks was the support for Somalia in combatting terrorism and reinforcing its territorial sovereignty. In addition, developments in Sudan were scrutinized, highlighting the necessity of supporting the Sudanese state while preserving its unity and territorial integrity.

The meeting also covered issues related to Libya and the Sahel region, as well as recent changes in the Red Sea. Egypt reiterated its position against any external non-littoral interventions regarding the security and governance of the Red Sea.

President Afwerki expressed his regards to President El-Sisi and articulated his commitment to enhancing bilateral relations in all domains. He asserted that strengthened ties would fulfill the aspirations of both nations and reflect their historical connection.
