Uber Launches New Safety Feature for Teenagers in India

Uber has introduced a safety feature for teenagers in India, enabling real-time ride monitoring and secure travel. The pilot program is currently being tested in select cities and will soon expand nationwide. This initiative follows its earlier launch in the United States and aims to enhance the safety of young riders through innovative measures.

Uber has launched a new safety feature for teenagers in India, following its introduction in the United States earlier this year. This service, designed for users aged 13 to 17, is now available in 50 countries globally. Parents or guardians can monitor their teenager’s rides in real time, with many users reporting visibility of this feature in their app accounts.

The feature allows parents and guardians to invite their teenagers by sending an invitation through the Uber app. Prior to sending the invite, guardians must link a credit or debit card to their Uber account; teenagers can then select their payment method when booking rides. The service is currently being piloted in select cities, including Bengaluru, Delhi-NCR, and Mumbai, with plans for expansion to an additional 35 cities.

Uber’s safety feature gives guardians real-time access to their teenager’s ride location, along with recorded audio of conversations between the driver and the passenger. Furthermore, once a destination is chosen, it will be locked to prevent any alterations by the driver. A pin verification system will also be implemented to bolster security for each ride.

In addition, Union Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia inaugurated the India Pavilion at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 in Barcelona, Spain. During this event, he engaged with global leaders in the digital and mobile sectors to discuss advancements in technology in India.
