Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar of Pakistan is set to attend an OIC foreign ministers meeting in Jeddah to denounce a U.S. proposal aimed at displacing Palestinians from Gaza. This proposal has raised fears among Palestinians of being permanently uprooted from their homes. The meeting will also address worsening conditions in Palestine due to ongoing Israeli aggression.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar will participate in a special meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) foreign ministers, taking place in Jeddah on Friday. His objective is to denounce an ‘unacceptable’ proposal that seeks to displace Palestinians from Gaza, a plan that has raised significant concern within the Muslim world.

U.S. President Donald Trump has proposed permanently displacing over 2 million Palestinians from Gaza, asserting U.S. control over the territory and transforming it into an international resort. This plan echoes long-standing fears among Palestinians of being permanently removed from their homes.

The OIC Extraordinary Session will address the worsening situation in Palestine amidst ongoing aggression and violations of Palestinian rights. Ishaq Dar is expected to reaffirm Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, advocating for complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from all occupied territories, including Jerusalem, while condemning further displacement.

Dar will champion the restoration of inalienable rights for Palestinians, including their right to return and the establishment of an independent state based on borders prior to June 1967, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif designated as its capital.

Additionally, Arab leaders this week endorsed an Egyptian reconstruction plan that aims to restore Gaza without displacing its Palestinian residents, contrasting sharply with Trump’s vision. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has indicated that Egypt is collaborating with Palestinians to establish a committee to manage Gaza post-conflict.

There are ongoing discussions regarding Hamas’s involvement following their recent hostilities against Israel, which resulted in considerable casualties and widespread repercussions. Reports indicate that the recent Israeli assaults have resulted in more than 48,000 Palestinian fatalities and extensive displacement.

Since 1967, Palestinian territories, including Gaza and the West Bank, have remained under Israeli occupation. Pakistan maintains a policy of non-recognition toward Israel, advocating for a sovereign Palestinian state based on internationally accepted principles and pre-1967 borders.

The upcoming OIC meeting is a pivotal moment for Pakistan to reaffirm its commitment to the Palestinian cause. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar will vocally oppose plans for Palestinian displacement, echoing widespread Arab and Muslim opposition. With the dire conditions in Gaza, the meeting will emphasize the need for a united response to protect Palestinian rights and support their aspirations for statehood and sovereignty.
