Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to fostering a strong partnership with the United States to promote regional peace and stability. In a recent statement on X (formerly known as Twitter), he expressed gratitude towards US President Donald Trump for acknowledging Pakistan’s critical contributions in the counter-terrorism efforts concerning Afghanistan.

The Prime Minister highlighted Pakistan’s longstanding role in combating terrorism, emphasizing the country’s efforts to eliminate safe havens for terrorists and prevent extremist operations. He underscored Pakistan’s unwavering resolve to fight terrorism, referencing the sacrifices made by over 80,000 soldiers and civilians in this ongoing battle.

PM Shehbaz further insisted on Pakistan’s commitment to collaborate with the United States, aiming to enhance peace and stability in the region. He thanked President Trump for recognizing Pakistan’s contributions and cooperation, particularly in light of the arrest of key terrorist figure Shareefullah, linked to the recent security operations.

Earlier, during a session of Congress, President Trump commended Pakistan for its assistance in apprehending a terrorist responsible for the tragic 2021 Kabul airport bombing, which claimed the lives of 13 American service members among other civilians. Trump noted that this arrest marked a significant moment for the families affected by that horrendous day.

Referring to the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan, Trump reiterated his criticism of the Biden administration’s handling of the situation, describing it as a monumental embarrassment. Additionally, he announced a policy change permitting $397 million for the maintenance of Pakistan’s F-16 fighter jets, specifically aimed at counter-terrorism operations, under strict US oversight to prevent misuse against India.

Despite an executive order on foreign funding, the US has provided around $5.3 billion in security funding exemptions, with Pakistan’s allocation being a notable inclusion among 243 other exemptions granted.

In summary, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to counter-terrorism and highlighted its crucial partnership with the United States. The recognition from President Trump adds significance to Pakistan’s efforts against terrorism, particularly related to the recent apprehension of a key terrorist figure.
