Liberian Journalist Participates in Global Media Exchange Program in Beijing

The China International Press Communication Center has launched a four-month media exchange program for 55 journalists from various regions, including Liberia. This program aims to enhance their understanding of China’s socio-economic developments and governance while fostering international media collaboration. Participants, including Lincoln G. Peters from Liberia, will receive exclusive access to political events and specialized training, ultimately enhancing bilateral relationships through informed storytelling.
The China International Press Communication Center (CIPCC), in conjunction with the China Public Diplomacy Association (CPDA), has inaugurated a four-month media exchange and capacity-building program, which includes 55 journalists from Africa and other regions, including Liberia. Initiated on February 27, 2025, in Beijing, this program seeks to enhance participants’ understanding of China’s socio-economic progress, governance, and international diplomacy while fostering collaboration between China and the global media industry.
The initiative aims to provide journalists, particularly from developing countries, with an immersive educational experience. Participants will engage in lectures, field visits, and media internships designed to deepen their knowledge and skills. This year, the cohort was selected from among 120 applicants hailing from over 100 countries, reinforcing the program’s competitiveness and international scope.
During the opening ceremony, CIPCC Director Yu Lei expressed excitement about the program’s expansion, highlighting its significance in strengthening global media relations. He remarked that the exchange serves to enhance mutual understanding through journalism, encouraging attendees to report accurately about China’s developments while embracing the opportunity to explore the nation’s transformation. He urged participants to respect local laws during their stay and to utilize their experiences to inform their audiences back home.
Director Yu specified that the program would offer exclusive access to key political events—the National People’s Congress (NPC) and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC)—commencing on March 4, 2025. This opportunity allows participants to witness the intricacies of China’s legislative system firsthand, an invaluable addition to their training.
Throughout the program, journalists will receive specialized training on China’s diplomacy, economic reforms, science and technology, and media practices. Field visits to significant provinces, interactions with governmental departments, and internships with major Chinese media organizations are included to enhance their understanding and practical experience.
Participants will also attend symposiums with Chinese think tanks and major enterprises, facilitating insights into domestic and foreign policy strategies. Among the participants is Lincoln G. Peters, a Diplomatic and Legislative Reporter for The New Dawn newspaper in Liberia, who has reported on China-related developments for over seven years. He described his selection as a significant career milestone and an opportunity to bolster Liberia-China media relations.
“I would like to extend my appreciation to the People’s Republic of China, particularly its Embassy in Liberia, headed by H.E. Ambassador Yin Chengwu, for this incredible opportunity and support,” Peters stated. He expressed gratitude to his editorial team for enabling his participation and emphasized his commitment to sharing stories that reflect China’s development and deepen bilateral relations.
Lincoln Peters expressed, “I take this very seriously, and I intend to become an ambassador of China by telling untold stories. This program is not just about professional growth but also about building bridges between our nations,” further underscoring the program’s importance for fostering international dialogue.
Since its inception over a decade ago, the CIPCC program has gained recognition as a pivotal initiative advocating media cooperation and cultural exchange. This initiative aligns with China’s broader strategy of enhancing diplomatic relationships through people-to-people connections, aiming to improve global understanding of its development model.
As the program progresses toward its conclusion on July 11, 2025, participants are anticipated to produce in-depth reports, documentaries, and multimedia narratives that encapsulate their observations and experiences. Director Yu Lei reaffirmed the program’s dedication to supporting journalists and nurturing open communication between China and the global community.
The CIPCC initiative highlights the importance of global media exchanges in fostering understanding and collaboration among nations. With participants gaining valuable insights into China’s socio-economic landscape and political processes, the program serves as both an educational platform and a means of strengthening international ties, particularly between China and developing countries like Liberia. Through this exchange, journalists can contribute to more informed and balanced narratives about China’s growth and development.
