Former Pakistan coach Jason Gillespie resigned after feeling undermined and criticized interim head coach Aaqib Javed. Gillespie’s departure follows a trend of instability in the coaching staff, with Aaqib acknowledging the negative impact of frequent changes on the team. Gillespie’s remarks on social media underscore perceived internal conflicts within the coaching setup.

Jason Gillespie, the former head coach of Pakistan’s cricket team, stated that he felt undermined before he resigned in December. In a recent social media post, he referred to the interim head coach, Aaqib Javed, as a “clown.” Gillespie, who had a notable playing career for Australia, was appointed as the test coach but left after just eight months due to an unsuccessful start, making him the second foreign coach to depart in a short span.

Aaqib Javed, who serves as Pakistan’s national selector in addition to his interim head coach role, admitted that frequent changes have negatively impacted the national team, particularly following their failure to advance in the Champions Trophy. He noted, “We have changed nearly 16 coaches and 26 selectors in the last two years.” He emphasized the need for consistency at all levels to foster the team’s progress.

In response to Aaqib’s comments about the coaching changes, Gillespie found the remarks amusing and accused Aaqib of attempting to undermine him and the former coach, Gary Kirsten. “Aaqib was clearly undermining Gary and I behind the scenes,” he remarked, continuing his critique by labeling Aaqib as a clown. Following Kirsten’s resignation, Aaqib had taken over the test squad while his contract remains in effect as the Pakistan Cricket Board searches for a permanent successor.

In summary, Jason Gillespie’s resignation from Pakistan’s cricket coaching position has drawn attention to internal issues within the team’s management structure. Aaqib Javed’s admission regarding frequent coaching changes highlights the instability faced by the national team. Gillespie’s remarks reflect the ongoing tensions in the coaching hierarchy, stressing the need for consistent leadership to enhance the team’s performance.
