Jaishankar States Kashmir Resolution Linked to Return of Occupied Region from Pakistan

During a discussion at Chatham House in London, he mentioned that many conflicts in Kashmir have been addressed following the revocation of Article 370, which has fostered growth and electoral processes in the area. “When that is done, I assure you, Kashmir solved,” he asserted.
Dr. Jaishankar expressed optimism about India’s relationship with the United States under President Trump, noting an alignment with India’s interests in a multipolar world. He remarked, “We see a president and an administration which, in our parlance, is moving towards multipolarity, and that is something that suits India.” He highlighted the success of the Quad alliance involving India, the US, Australia, and Japan, which operates on equitable contributions from each member.
On trade relations, Dr. Jaishankar mentioned that India and the US are working towards a bilateral trade pact following Prime Minister Modi’s discussions with President Trump. He noted that Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal is currently in Washington to advance these negotiations. He remarked on their openness, stating, “We had a very open conversation about it (tariffs), and the result of that conversation was that we agreed on the need for a bilateral trade agreement.”
Addressing various topics, the External Affairs Minister talked about India’s relationship with China, the prospects of the rupee on the global stage, and the US dollar’s role in the international economy. He clarified, “I don’t believe there is any policy on our part to replace the dollar,” emphasizing that stability is crucial and that the dollar contributes significantly to that stability. Moreover, he dispelled myths about a unified BRICS stance against the dollar, highlighting the diverse perspectives among member nations, especially following the group’s recent expansion.
