Jason and Meaghan Geroux from Orrington are preparing for a 103-mile ultra marathon in Nepal, drawing on their extensive experience in marathon running. They train year-round, facing both physical and mental challenges, and hope to inspire others to take on similar feats. Despite not being sponsored athletes, their shared passion for ultra marathons motivates them to push their limits.

Jason and Meaghan Geroux, a couple from Orrington, are set to compete in a 100-mile ultra marathon in Mustang, Nepal, alongside athletes from around the globe. The couple, known for their adventurous spirit and commitment to fitness, has participated in numerous marathons in countries including Iceland and Ireland. They now focus on ultra marathons, ranging from 26.2 miles to over 100 miles in distance.

“We both just fell in love with like putting up these big numbers and were like ‘well that’s kinda cool, well where’s the ceiling, how far can we push it,'” stated Jason Geroux. Their rigorous training throughout the year prepares them to compete in any conditions, even adverse weather.

Meaghan Geroux expressed, “Pushing yourself further and longer is something you don’t think you can do until you do it.” In just a few weeks, the couple will face their biggest challenge yet, racing with 50 other participants in a 103-mile trek through the Himalayas.

The Geroux couple first fell in love with the Himalayas during their journey to Everest Base Camp in 2019, coinciding with their venture into ultra marathons. “We saw a race going on that year and said ‘maybe someday we’ll be that cool,'” Jason reminisced. Now, after six years, they are ready to fulfill that aspiration, enduring various distances over eight days, often sacrificing sleep to reach their goals.

Meaghan acknowledged, “Getting through the night-time hour is a really mental challenge, because you want to sleep, so I think that’s the biggest challenge with ultras.” They do not receive sponsorship and participate in these events in their leisure time, driven by their shared passion. Meaghan works as a dietician, while Jason is an epoxy floor and painting contractor.

Jason stated, “I just want to try to rub off on the people that I’m around, to say ‘hey you can do this too, I’m just a regular guy.'” They aspire to demonstrate that anyone can rise to the occasion of such challenges.

“It’s going to be fun, it’s going to be challenging, but I think it’s going to be a great accomplishment when we’re done and we’ll do it together,” Meaghan concluded.

In summary, Jason and Meaghan Geroux are gearing up for a significant challenge by participating in a 103-mile ultra marathon in Nepal. Their dedication to fitness, coupled with their shared passion for adventure, has led them through many marathons globally. Through their journey, they aim to motivate others to pursue their own athletic challenges, displaying that determination enables one to conquer even seemingly impossible feats.
