Kalonzo Criticizes Raila and Ruto Agreement as Betrayal of Kenyans

Kalonzo Musyoka criticized the agreement between President Ruto and Raila Odinga as a betrayal of Kenyans. He reasserted the opposition’s commitment to defending citizens’ rights during the People’s Dialogue Forum. Meanwhile, Raila rejected alliances with Gachagua, and Busia Senator Omtatah condemned the Nadco report’s support, highlighting tensions in Kenyan politics.
Kalonzo Musyoka, leader of the Wiper party, has vocally criticized the recent cooperation agreement between President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga, labeling it as a betrayal of the Kenyan people. In response to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) unveiled on Friday, Kalonzo stated that the opposition coalition will remain steadfast in advocating for the people’s rights and values.
In a post on his X (formerly known as Twitter), Kalonzo expressed, “What has come out of KICC today is the biggest betrayal of Kenyans. The people’s loyal coalition will never trade its principles for temporary comfort.” He accompanied his statement with images from the People’s Dialogue Forum at Uhuru Park, where he highlighted the coalition’s dedication to defending the interests of Kenyans.
Kalonzo, alongside former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, assured that their coalition would maintain its commitment to advocating for citizens’ rights. He participated actively in discussions with various participants, including civil society leaders, who have been engaged in dialogue on national matters since Wednesday.
Notably, former Chief Justice David Maraga attended the forum, which is set to conclude on Saturday. Last month, Kalonzo had urged Raila Odinga to abandon support for the government and instead collaborate with the opposition to champion the people’s needs.
Additionally, Rigathi Gachagua warned Raila against forming an alliance with Ruto, highlighting the tensions in the opposition ranks. Nonetheless, during his Wajir County visit, Raila rejected the notion of collaborating with Gachagua’s camp, referencing past grievances.
On Friday, Ruto and Raila signed a significant MoU to address ten critical national issues including corruption and urged the implementation of the Nadco report, a document from past bipartisan discussions. However, Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah quickly criticized this agreement, asserting, “Anybody supporting Nadco must be removed from public life. Raila Odinga and William Ruto have declared war on the future of this country,” during his remarks at the forum.
In summary, Kalonzo Musyoka’s strong disapproval of the agreement between Raila Odinga and William Ruto illustrates the divisions within Kenyan politics. His commitment to uphold the rights of the Kenyan people remains unwavering, even as national discourse continues around the newly signed MoU, which aims to tackle significant issues facing the nation. The opposition coalition’s stance against perceived betrayals emphasizes the ongoing struggle for integrity and justice within the country’s leadership.
