The Catholic Diocese of Nebbi celebrated the installation of Rt Rev Constantine Rupiny as its Fifth Bishop on February 22, 2025. His appointment followed the vacancy left by Most Rev. Archbishop Raphael p’ Mony Wokorach emphasized the importance of leading without fear, promising the new bishop the protection of the Holy Spirit as he assumes his role.

The celebratory event was co-consecrated by Archbishop Luigi Bianco and Bishop Francis Aquirinus Kibira. Addressing the congregation, Bishop Rupiny expressed his commitment to serve all members of the community and to collaborate closely with clergy, religious leaders, and laypersons. He recognized governmental efforts to address wealth creation, while also stressing the significant issue of poverty persisted in the diocese.

In his homily, Archbishop Wokorach voiced concerns regarding political divisiveness affecting local youth, noting that their involvement is often selfish and detrimental to development. He lamented that infrastructure decay stems from politicization and called for a politics that supports the common good.

Archbishop Wokorach challenged Bishop Rupiny to remain resolute in his mission, reminding him that the people are longing for justice and healing. He referred to the current state of confusion among the populace and noted that this is the new territory the bishop must guide with hope and unity.

Representing President Yoweri Museveni, Vice President Jessica Alupo conveyed the government’s commitment to supporting the Church’s initiatives. She encouraged Bishop Rupiny to adopt a selfless service approach, affirming that shepherding the flock provides an opportunity to serve the faithful. Alupo emphasized the necessity for collaboration between government and religious leaders to combat poverty, urging all to work diligently for improved economic inclusion.
