Mansour Lawal, brother of deceased Nigerian footballer Abubakar Lawal, demands a thorough investigation into his brother’s death in Uganda, highlighting the need for accountability from authorities and expressing gratitude to the Nigerian government and supporters for their support during this tragic time.

Mansour Lawal, the elder brother of late Nigerian footballer Abubakar Lawal, has called upon both the Nigerian government and Ugandan authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into his brother’s death. The tragic incident occurred while the player was in Uganda, and the appeals for justice follow conflicting reports regarding the circumstances surrounding his demise, as stated by The PUNCH.

Abubakar Lawal’s death was officially announced by his football club and Ugandan police on February 24. Initial reports indicated he died in a motorcycle accident, but police later reported he had fallen from a balcony at a shopping mall in Kampala. The 29-year-old player was subsequently laid to rest in Sokoto, Nigeria, with honors from his club Vipers SC and tributes from fans.

Mansour Lawal expressed gratitude towards the Nigerian and Sokoto State governments for their assistance during this difficult time and urged for accountability regarding his brother’s untimely death. In a heartfelt video shared by Vipers SC, he remarked on the importance of ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice, highlighting the role of the Nigerian embassy in facilitating this process.

While investigations continue, both the Nigerian High Commission in Uganda and the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission have pledged to uncover the truth about the incident. According to Uganda Police, preliminary findings suggest Lawal arrived at the mall to meet a Tanzanian friend, after which he was left alone. Shortly after, he reportedly fell from a balcony and was declared dead at Entebbe Referral Hospital.

The prompt involvement of the Nigerian Embassy, as communicated by Ambassador Shama Shanga, indicates the seriousness with which authorities are treating this case. NiDCOM Chairman Dabiri-Erewa has demanded a comprehensive inquiry, asserting that any hint of a cover-up is unacceptable and urging for transparency throughout the investigation.

The tragic death of Abubakar Lawal has raised significant concerns regarding the circumstances surrounding his demise. Calls for a thorough investigation are echoing from both his family and Nigerian authorities, as they seek justice for the late footballer. The involvement of the Nigerian embassy signals a commitment to uncovering the truth and ensuring accountability, underscoring the need for transparency in this sensitive case.
