Pakistan Endorses Arab League’s Gaza Reconstruction Initiative

Pakistan supports the Arab League’s Gaza reconstruction plan aiming for governance by the Palestinian Authority. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar highlighted the need for Israel to halt violations against Palestinians while alternative proposals to Trump’s plan are being discussed at OIC meetings. A trust fund for reconstruction has been established, yet the plan lacks a strategy for Hamas, complicating its acceptance.
Pakistan has expressed its strong support for the Arab League’s initiative concerning the reconstruction of Gaza, which is intended to be administered by the Palestinian Authority. This endorsement was articulated by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar during the Extraordinary Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers held in Jeddah. He affirmed Pakistan’s solidarity with the Palestinian people and endorsed the decisions put forth by the Arab League.
Senator Dar emphasized the necessity for Israel to cease its continuing violations against Palestinians and to comply with international law, alongside efforts for Gaza’s reconstruction. He participated in this discourse as part of the OIC’s broader support, which included a vote to endorse the Arab League’s counter-proposal to US President Donald Trump’s controversial plan concerning Gaza.
The OIC’s decision, made at an emergency meeting in Jeddah, came shortly after the Arab League ratified its reconstruction plan at a summit in Cairo. The emphasis of the plan, crafted by Egypt, is on rebuilding Gaza under the future governance of the Palestinian Authority. Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty stated that the plan has now evolved into an Arab-Islamic initiative.
The original proposal made by Trump faced international criticism, suggesting that the US take over Gaza, with plans to displace Palestinian residents to neighboring countries. In contrast, the Arab League and OIC have introduced a trust fund aimed at supporting Gaza’s reconstruction while appealing to the global community for additional backing. The next goal is to gain international endorsement from entities such as the European Union, Russia, Japan, and China, though the current proposal has not included Hamas, which controls Gaza, and has faced rejection by both Israel and the United States.
In summary, Pakistan has pledged its support for the Arab League’s reconstruction plan for Gaza, emphasizing the need for international assistance and adherence to human rights. This initiative has garnered backing from the OIC and aims to provide a viable framework for the rehabilitation of Gaza under Palestinian leadership. However, challenges remain as the plan does not incorporate Hamas, complicating the potential for effective governance and consensus within the region.
