An Iranian official reported that during a visit from Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to Tehran, Iran expressed its willingness to engage in dialogue through Russian diplomatic channels but maintained it would not negotiate under Trump’s conditions.
Moreover, President Trump signed an executive order on February 5 aiming to reinstate stringent measures against Iran while expressing a willingness to negotiate with the Iranian leadership. The background of this situation is complex; the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) was established on January 16, 2016, but the U.S. unilaterally withdrew from this agreement on May 8, 2018, leading to harsh sanctions imposed on Iran from November 2018 onward.
