A senior official confirmed that Iraq’s 2025 budget is poised to be presented to Parliament before the end of March. Mudher Mohammad Saleh, the financial and economic advisor to the Prime Minister, stated that there is a consensus among the Parliamentary Finance Committee, the Council of Ministers, and the Ministry of Finance regarding the budget tables.
According to Saleh, Article 77/Second of the 2023 General Budget Law mandates the Ministry of Finance to annually present budget schedules, incorporating changes to both operating and capital expenditures. He noted that the ministry will submit the 2025 budget tables to the Council of Ministers for review and approval prior to their dispatch to Parliament.
Furthermore, the advisor indicated that the budget schedules should be in Parliament’s hands before the conclusion of Ramadan, which aligns with the end of this month. An MP from the Shiite Coordination Framework also confirmed that the Ministry of Finance will submit the budget tables to the Cabinet for discussion and voting within the week.
In conclusion, Iraq’s 2025 budget is set to be presented to Parliament by the end of March, following a governmental agreement. The Ministry of Finance is tasked with preparing the budget schedules as stipulated by law, which will then be reviewed by the Council of Ministers. The anticipation is for these schedules to be available before the end of Ramadan, facilitating timely parliamentary discussion and approval.
