The PSC has announced that 205 clerical officers failed their proficiency exam, with Human Resource Services being the most failed subject. Among those who failed were candidates from various ministries and county governments. Conversely, 673 clerical officers passed the exam, showcasing a significant success rate.
The Public Service Commission (PSC) of Kenya has announced that 205 clerical officers failed their proficiency examination conducted in September 2024. The official notice, published in the Kenya Gazette on March 7, specified the subjects each of the candidates did not pass and mandated them to resit these subjects.
The announcement highlighted, “The following two hundred and five (205) candidates did not pass the Proficiency Examination for Clerical Officers held from September 23 to 26, 2024. They are expected to resit the subject(s) indicated against their names.” The most notable subject with the highest failure rate was Human Resource Services, which was common across various governmental ministries.
Additional subjects in which candidates underperformed included communication skills, supply services, records management, and accounts. The candidates represented multiple government entities, particularly the Interior and National Administration Ministry, alongside other ministries such as Public Service, Defence, Education, and National Treasury.
Noteworthy is that there were also candidates from county governments, including Nakuru, Taita Taveta, and Turkana, on the list of those who failed. Additionally, one male candidate from the Ministry of Interior and National Administration had his results annulled due to examination irregularities, as reported in the statement.
Despite the setbacks for some, a total of 673 clerical officers successfully passed the examination. Their names and elective subjects were published in the same notice, emphasizing the importance of the examination process for clerical officers in the public service.
In summary, the PSC has mandated 205 clerical officers to retake their proficiency exam subjects after failing the September 2024 examination. The most significant failures were recorded in Human Resources Services. However, 673 candidates successfully passed the examination, reflecting a notable achievement amid the challenges faced by some public service workers.
