Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Addresses Concerns Over Chinese Nationals in Uzbekistan

The Prime Minister’s Press Secretary, Bekzod Khidoyatov, addressed recent claims regarding the influx of Chinese nationals in Uzbekistan, asserting that it reflects a broader investment trend rather than a territorial threat. He urged the public to resist panic and emphasized Uzbekistan’s sovereign partnerships.
In response to recent social media reports concerning a perceived rise in the number of Chinese nationals in Uzbekistan and allegations of territorial transfers to China, the Prime Minister’s Press Secretary, Bekzod Khidoyatov, provided an official statement to Platina.uz. He emphasized that such narratives reflect an unjustified panic and lack a factual basis.
Khidoyatov explained, “We are currently witnessing a global shift in investments. Thanks to the efforts of our president, Uzbekistan’s economy is developing, and we are pursuing an open and pragmatic policy.” He highlighted that foreign investors, including those from Germany, France, Turkey, India, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Malaysia, are also engaged in business in Uzbekistan, not just Chinese nationals.
He pointed out that it is a common practice for both Uzbek entrepreneurs and migrants to operate abroad, including in China. He noted the presence of sizable Uzbek communities overseas, asserting that there is no widespread concern about foreign populations in those countries. Furthermore, he dismissed the rumors about Chinese nationals as part of a manipulative campaign by outside interests.
Stressing the historical partnership between Uzbekistan and China, Khidoyatov asserted that China respects Uzbekistan’s sovereignty, referencing a formal agreement on the matter. He contextualized the situation by comparing it to the significant number of Indian students studying in Uzbekistan, which does not indicate an impending takeover by India. He concluded by urging citizens to exercise patience and caution against unfounded claims, stating, “Uzbekistan is no longer a closed country. We urge people to be more patient and not to believe false or provocative information.”
In summary, the Prime Minister’s Press Secretary, Bekzod Khidoyatov, has clarified that the increasing presence of foreign nationals, including the Chinese, in Uzbekistan is a normal aspect of economic development rather than a political threat. He underscored the importance of discerning fact from provocation and reassured citizens of Uzbekistan’s territorial integrity and historical partnerships.
